Tucked away on the southeast shore of Upolu is the idyllic Lalomanu Beach. If you’re looking for endless white sand, beach sunrises and sunsets, and perfect turquoise water as far as you can see, then Lalomanu Beach is exactly what you are looking for! The beach screams classic South Pacific vacation, especially when you book your Samoa accommodation in one of the beach side fales.

Getting to Lalomanu Beach
Lalomanu Beach is located on the island of Upolu, one of Samoa’s main two islands. This is the same island you will fly in and out of during your Samoa holiday, through Apia’s Faleolo Airport.

You will need to travel out of Apia, to the south eastern tip of Upolu. Lalomanu Beach is located in (you guessed it…) the village of Lalomanu, along the Main South Coast Road. A car rental from Apia is by far the easiest mode of transportation, and will allow you to see more of the sights around Upolu.
Direct travel time from Apia to Lalomanu is about 1.25 hours. Plan for extra travel time to be cautious, especially if you are new to left side driving. Samoan roads are curvy and somewhat rough, and you’ll frequently see kids walking on the road side or a passing car traveling in the center of the road!
There are no addresses in Samoa, but village names are marked with obvious signs at the road. Pick up a map of the island in Apia when you arrive, and it will definitely come in handy. Samoa Tourism has a great (free) map available. Purchasing a local SIM card to use Google Maps on your phone is also really helpful. Find those details in our Guide to Apia.
Lalomanu Beach Accommodation
The best way to experience Lalomanu Beach is by staying overnight at an iconic beach fale! You will absolutely feel like you are staying in your own slice of heaven when you fall asleep to the sounds of gentle waves and wake to a beach sunrise.
Staying at a beach fale was great with our older kids who follow our beach safety rules. Ty and Tora could walk the long beach or play in the shallow waves while we hung back and got to experience some adult conversations. I have no doubt this set up would be harder with little toddlers in tow, or for families with light sleepers. Sometimes night time waves don’t sound so gentle!

We stayed at Taufua Beach Fales for our week visit to Upolu. Out of the 3 accommodations listed here, Taufua is the best budget option. Their bare bones open beach fale include floor mattresses, mosquito netting, and some pretty awesome views! They also have enclosed fales, as well as bungalows with AC on the hill above the beach. Take a look at their website for the different options.

The staff, fales, and fellow guests were all incredibly welcoming. It was a really neat experience sitting down to both breakfast and dinner at long banquet tables with all the fellow guests. We had lots of wonderful conversations with travelers from all over the world, with different accents and stories for our kids to listen to. If you’ve ever wanted to instill a life long desire to travel in your kids, these meals are perfect. Everyone seemed to come to traveling from a different angle, but everyone made it a priority.
- Accommodations are beachfront enclosed style fale, or garden enclosed style fale.
- Reservations include breakfast and dinner. Lunch and bar items available for purchase.
- Prices begin at $245 WST for two adults.
Litia Sini is also right on Lalomanu Beach, and next to Taufua Beach Fales. While we didn’t stay here ourselves, we heard from other travelers about their lovely accommodations. Take a look at their website for all the details.

Aga Reef Resort is just off Lalomanu Beach at the west end. We don’t have any personal experience with the resort other than driving by, and all looked lovely! If you’re looking for more of luxury experience over budget fales, take a look at the Aga Reef Resort.
Activities
Swimming, walking, beach combing, and copious amounts of relaxing are by far the most popular things do on Lalomanu Beach! Snorkeling is always fun, but sadly this area does not have pristine reef due to severe damage from the 2009 tsunami.

The resorts have kayaks for rent for a paddle along the beach. They can also help coordinate island tours of the local sites. If you are looking to be your own tour guide, take a look at our recommended Top Things To Do Around Upolu. The incredible To Sua Ocean Trench is just a 20 minute drive from Lalomanu Beach. There are plenty of other amazing stops around the island, or fun activities to do in Apia.
